Evolved to love.

Image
Evolved to love. Rachel Johnson We learned to love on an evolutionary scale. Far from the places where we are now, the need to nurture and show altruistic behavior evolved not only in humans but many species. But how did we evolve to love?Well that came in the form of brain chemicals and need. We need to be cared for just as much as we care. Humans are biologically driven beings and love is a biological need. What we call love is really based on a raise in the levels of oxytocin in our brain. The chemicall need for nurturing. So why are these so important and how does this work? This takes on an amazing journey through time and evolution, back to the mesozoic, when dinosaurs and small mammals walked the land. We used to think dinosaurs were cold blooded creatures who left their offspring in eggs, in a nest, abandoned to fend for themselves, but now we know that Dino's made good moms and dads. Which means that the need to nurture is as old as 244 million years, or more. W...

From Embryo to Baby.

Image
From Embryo to Baby. Rachel Johnson You may think it is an easy process going from being an Egg and Sperm to being a baby. We often take for granted the complex world of reproduction. So Step by step lets walk through what it takes to become a baby. During 7 days a month a woman is fertile. This can be 7 days before menses, or the 7 days of menses, and even up to a couple days after. That is because ovulation (maturing the egg and then releasing it) can happen at any time, once the woman's hormone levels peak. Several eggs actually begin to mature, but normally only one is released, and the other shrink back to size. The egg bursts off of the ovary, and begins floating towards the Fallopian tube. Sperm, that is released from the male, travels up through the uterus, which is a long and dangerous journey. The environment of the uterus can be deadly for a sperm. The uterine walls normally secrete harmful acids, and it is only during ovulation that the fluid in the walls aid t...

Mohammad was just a man and the Quran is Not Science.

Image
Mohammad Was Just A Man, and The Quran is not Science. 1400 Years ago in Medina was a man named Mohammad. He was born to an average mother, and father. He grew up illiterate, and claimed to have talked to god. No one can refute this since he was alone during this time. Perhaps he had listened to the tales from men traveling through, certainly only he knows, but no one speaks from the grave. He had many wives, his youngest and last being the Aisha. This has caused an uproar in the West, though honestly it is not the first time a man would marry a child too young, or the last. That brings me to my point. Mohammad was just a man.  I know that those who follow the Quran and the Hadith never want to be caught speaking bad of their prophet, but face it he was not perfect. In fact some of the things he did, like have a woman's family killed so he could marry her, were kind of horrible. http://www.answering-islam.org/Responses/Osama/zawadi_safiyyah.htm His wanting a young bride ...

A Quantum Universe.

Image
A Quantum Universe. There has never been a greater time to live in then now. One where science is breaking through so many new fields. We have learned that we live in a flat universe, and that everything we thought was nothing, is something. We now have Multiverse Theory, and Quantum Mechanics. So many big words to describe things that swirl in the average mind. So what does this all mean for us? We are really simple organisms that have evolved. We are not yet so complex that our mind, let alone our eyes can comprehend everything. The fact is we are Earthlings, and bound by the rules of our evolution. So it is hard to  imagine what we can't about this universe. For instance the need for our universe to be a bubble, that is flat so we can exist here. It is the perfect time, while our sun is not too small or too bright. We are in the perfect position, not too close or too far from the sun. We have the right amount of surface, to water ratio. Which keeps the Earth from being ...

The Resurrection of Fariy Tales.

Image
The Resurrection of Fairy Tales. Tomorrow is the day that Christians will be celebrating the Resurrection of their savior. But what are they really celebrating? Is it as simple as a kind man being put to death and then coming back three days later, or does this go much deeper? I have not seen enough evidence to believe that a man named Jesus ever existed, but lets say for just a few minuets that I can believe. Well as the story goes, he was born in Bethlehem to a virgin mother, who birthed him in a manger. Then fled with him, to escape his death. She raised him up to be a man, and then, we have Savior Man. "For god so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son." God must be one petty prick. He gets mad at the world, so mad he is thinking of destroying it again. because the thousands of people he killed in the flood learned the hard way, but this one family who had to commit incest to repopulate the world did not. What gives? Don't you know how to obey laws? Oh ...

Evolution Strikes Back.

Image
Evolution strikes back. Once upon a time in a galaxy......well right here, we evolved. In fact there is evidence everywhere. So much so that I want to go over it. Not just the evidence for evolution, but a lot of how and why. I often get the age old question of how life first began. Well I will give you a picture, a good hypothesis, and some examples. The rest is up to you, believe it if you will. Ignore it if you don't. Primordial Earth was not like today. Not even close. Imagine a world that was void and dark...oh wait that is someone else's story. The Earth was a mass of hot lava and pools of sulfur, hydrogen was plentiful, and there was some water. Nothing we want to drink. Our solar system is still in turmoil with meteors still crashing into the planets. In fact there was no moon yet. Just a hot mass. The earth was cooling though,  and stagnating pools of toxic sulfur water lay all around. Nothing was alive here, yet. And then it happened. Life. Now scientists hav...

In the Name of terrorism.

In the Name Of Terrorism. 9/11 Is a date no one can forget. We live it in our minds over and over. The war cry rang out and our President declared a war on Terrorism. This article may make a few of you hate me, but I challenge you to read it to the end. Then feel free to leave me your opinions. I want to hear them. I am not a soldier hater. In fact I honor them always. I know that in the course of duty innocent lives are lost. Ours, and whom we see as the enemy. But that is what I want to address. Our global war, that we deny is happening. One where we play the role of terrorists too. After 9/11 I heard cries of "Nuke Em', kill those Muslim bastards." Since then I have had a lot of time to think, and feel and look at reality. After all where there is blood, there are bloody hands. America has blood on its hands, and that is something no one can deny. We are guilty of some terrible things. Yet we don't dare see ourselves as Terrorists.  On 9/11, 13 men took ...
